Whirlwind Imp2 Standard Direct Box General Direct Boxes Whirlwind Live Sound/PA Shipping Cost :$4.99 Feature: I like the connection options and ground lift switch. Quality: The one I use at our church has been hooked and unhooked many times and has held up well. Value: Very good for what it does. If youve got hum, this is what will elimate it. Works good for connecting hi-z equipment to your mixer or from your hi-z mixer output to a low-z amp input. Desirability: I plan to get three or four for my own p.a. set up which I use in my sound buisness. Sound: This product does not effect the sound, but eliminates the hum caused by mis matched impedence connections. Ease of Use: Simple to use. Do your connections and get going. I connected a keyboard (hi-Z) to the mixer lo-Z input and had some hum. I picked up one of these and the hum disappeared with clean sound. Support: never had to use any support. Overall: The one our church uses has held up for several years now. Retail Price :$58 Review this product |

Behringer Di800 Ultra Di Pro 8-channel Direct Box General Direct Boxes Behringer Live Sound/PA Shipping Cost :$4.99 Feature: This product is a nice option for a "cheap and dirty" bridge between low-cost 5.1, 6.1, 7.1 home theatre receivers and big active speaker systems. Without an expensive 8-bus mixer or "boutique" surround sound decoder/controller, this product patches up to 8 channels of movie sound to active speakers, and I can control the overall volume and relative volume of the center, surroud, etc, with the receiver and its remote. Value: This was $80 plus about $20 in cabling, plus the low-end home-theatre receiver I already owned. My next alternative for my home theatre application was at least $1,200. Behringer Gi100 Ultra G Active Di Box General Direct Boxes Behringer Live Sound/PA Shipping Cost :$4.99 Feature: This DI does everything a DI should do, and slightly more. I just wish that the cabinet simulation didnt introduce any noise into the signal. Quality: I had one of these suffer a death where the input jacks seemed to somehow develop a short. I opened the DI to see if there was anything I could do, but the jacks are sealed (and soldered to a PCB.) What opening the box revealed, though, was that you would probably have to subject the box to a rather nasty impact to actually damage the electronics. Value: Behringer has a reputation for lots of features for a low price, and this DI is a perfect example of that. Desirability: This is a great addition to a live sound engineers arsenal, although it doesnt inspire the same "its nuke-proof" response as more heavily built DI boxes might. Sound: These DIs are quite nice, only seeming to have one sonic weakness, and that is the cabinet simulation causing a fair amount of hiss. The cabinet simulation wont satisfy everyone, but as a live sound engineer, I like its overall tone more than simply having an amp (usually with the high frequencies at painful levels) blasting away in the room. Support: Ive only spoken to Behringer once, and they seemed quite helpful. Overall: I am buying at least one more of these to make up for the one that had a problem. The 4X12 simulation puts these DIs at the head of the pack for me. Retail Price :$49.99 Review this product |
